The Light of the World

Tonight I was reminded of a very simple idea, but so often we can forget about it. I went to church tonight, we sang, prayed, and got into the message. About half way through the message the power went out. Everything turned off, all the lights, computers, and everything that ran on electricity turned off.

We also had that happen about 14 years ago. It was the same situation, A Wednesday night service, but people handled it a lot better this time than they did last time. Anyway, back to may point. Last time we had the power go out, we didn't have hardly any light. We had no emergency lights, hardly anyone had a cellphone back then, and even those didn't give out much light, if any. Parents were rushing around trying to find their children. Little kids were crying, teenage girls were screaming, people bumping into each other, lets just say, it got a little crazy.

Tonight however was made a little easier. Since then, our church has gotten some emergency lights, almost everyone in the world now has a cellphone, and some of the lucky ones had a bright light from their ipod. Unfortunately some of the emergency lights didn't work, but everyone stayed calm, and everyone got out of church safe and sound. As I was sitting in the pew, thinking about what I could really take out of this circumstance, I was reminded that we live in a very dark world. There are so many people who are lost, they don't know where they are going in the world. They are running around trying to figure a way out. They're trying to find a way to see, but we have a light. It's not mass chaos in our lives. We aren't running around trying to see.We once were blind, but now we can see!

Jesus says in John 8:12
" I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

So we have the light. We have a way that we can see. We aren't going crazy, but we need to use our light to help others, so they can see.

Tonight, as we were trying to help people out to their cars, we were using our cell-phones and flashlights and ipods, and we all walked out of the room calmly. People got in their car and went home. Everyone helped each other, and that was because we each had a way to see. We each had a light. So we should do that in our life too. We should take the light we have and use it so others can see the way too.

I don't know about you, but I want to use the not-so-little light of mine, and let it shine for others. Have a Great night, God Bless!
